June 2022
Our June meeting was a little bit different as we were experimenting with making backgrounds using tissue paper.
Liz Chester frequently uses this technique to create the 'cartoon' that she uses for her tapestry weaving. Layering up tissue paper allows her to create background colours and she uses this as a guide when weaving. The cartoon is a drawing or image that sits behind the warp threads on the loom and is used like a map to show where each colour goes.
We had a great time playing with tissue paper on paper and on fabric. We overlayed it creating new colours where 2 pieces overlapped, some members laid the tissue over previously printed or painted fabrics.
