About Chain Reaction Chain Reaction was originally formed as the Suffolk branch of the Eastern Region Textile Forum (ERTF) in 2010, but has since moved on to become an independent exhibiting group. Currently there are 9 members with various interests, including weaving, felt making, silk painting, shibori dyeing and hand and machine embroidery. The group meets on the second Monday of the month at: The Village Hall, Thornham St Martin, Suffolk IP311SW between 10.00 am and 1.00pm. Some mornings will be dedicated to informal workshops or other group activities. Approaching the annual exhibition there is always some kind of ‘admin’ to attend to but all meetings are sociable with news of exhibitions visited, workshops attended and work on individual projects. We bring our own lunches and drinks. The current yearly charge per member to cover the hall rental is £25.00.
Exhibiting The group has exhibited in the past in both Beccles and Ipswich, but we are now establishing an annual week-long exhibition at The Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings, each September. We aim for members to contribute, on average, four original pieces to this each year. The current cost of exhibiting, gallery fees, publicity etc. is around £60 per head.
We run a shop alongside the exhibition for the sale of individual member’s goods. All members also donate fabric packs for sale on behalf of the group to provide extra exhibition funds. We are a small group so every member is expected to fulfil several roles in the run up to, and during, the exhibition.
Applying to join the group Anyone wishing to join the group should, in the first instance, apply by e-mailing a CV and photographs of their work to Hilary Belchak ( email@example.com). If there is a vacancy and the members feel that the applicant’s work compliments that of the current group, applicants will be invited to visit on a Monday morning to meet the group and present their work in person. A final decision will be made after the applicant has left the meeting and they will be notified of this decision within 7 days. If there is no current vacancy the applicant will be asked if they wish their application to be held on file until one arises.
